Robertstown Viking Invasion at Village Fayre

08.06. 2015

The Village of Robertstown is hosting the Vintage Village Fayre on June 21st, Father's Day, from 12noon till late on the banks of the Grand Canal. Mayor Fiona O'Loughlin will be officiating as she arrives by Horse and carriage at 1pm. Rumour had it the there will be a Viking invasion on the day too. The theme this year is covering two periods in our history, Celtic and Druids as it is the day of the Solstice and a Medieval theme where there will have Medieval games and crafts on display by Medieval camp Ireland, The Irish centre for medieval learning. They will be offering mini archery lessons and shield painting on the day. They will have archery and shield painting competition and at the end of the day the winners will win a lesson with the medieval camp for themselves and a friend. The organisers of the Village Fayre encourage people to dress in Celtic or Druid costumes as the organising committee are dressing in period costume too which will give a great atmosphere to the village on the day.

In order to raise the much needed funds for the Sensory Room for Children with special needs in Robertstown National School, the Committee have organised a 5km Walk on the banks of the Grand Canal, so where better to loosen those muscles after the mini marathon than a lovely walk along the Grand Canal in Robertstown. They have a 5km High Nellie Cycle, so if you have a High Nellie bike, Raleigh Copper or a Tandem you are invited to come along. Speeding things up a little there is a Vintage Motor Bike run so all Honda 50', Harley Davidson or even a more modern day motor bike enthusiasts are welcome to take part in the Vintage Motor Bike run. Slowing down pace and horse-power a little the village Fayre will have a Vintage Horse Drawn vehicle run, from a pony and trap to horse and carriage all are well come to participate and registration for all these events take place from 12 noon to 2pm.

There will be many Food and Craft Stalls from local producers selling their goods so if you would like to take a stall, which there are a few spaces left, contact Karen Gorey at 087 2774394.

To ensure all the family enjoy the day including the canine members of the family the Dog Show fits the bill. Following the huge success of last year's event this year Irish Dog Foods, which is a family owned company based in Naas, are sponsoring the Dog Show. There are five categories including best small dog, best large dog, best dressed dog, best young handler and best Dog in show. Irish Dog Foods are giving a treat for each dog that enters so everyone is a winner.

Other events taking place on the day is a wet wellie race, duck race, horse shoe throwing, face painting and much more. Music lays a huge part on the day too with music in Welds, Mulanneys and Dowlings to entertain everyone.

On the longest day of the year, June 21st , all roads lead to Robertstown where it is hoped that the Viking invasion will be defeated, much needed funds are raised and the community spirit will prevail at Robertstown Vintage Village Fayre.
