Kildare v Meath GAA Football All-Ireland Qualifiers Round 3
Meath v Kildare, Páirc Tailteann, 7.00pm
Story So Far
Meath are coming into this game looking to right the wrongs of their last clash with Kiernan McGeeney's men. A six point difference that day in Croke Park saw Séamus McEnaney's side crash out of the Leinster Championship and set up a match with Louth. But any chance of an upset was quashed by four fine goals from Cian Ward. A tense one point victory over Galway last week has set up a rematch with the Lilywhites this Saturday.
Kildare are preparing to play their fifth match of the summer so far. Wins over Wicklow and this weekend's opponents Meath were halted by a defeat to a last minute Bernard Brogan point against Dublin. But McGeeney's men bounced back with a classy performance against Justin McNulty's Laois last weekend and saw them comfortably through to Round 3 of the Qualifiers.
History
This pair have seen plenty of each other with this meeting being their third time over the last 12 months. The Lilywhites were victors in last year's All-Ireland quarter-final by 2-17 to 1-12 and by six points in last month's Leinster quarter-final. McGeeney's men also came out on top in the Allianz League clash in March so history is on Kildare's side. Meath were last on the winning side back in 2007 when they beat Kildare by 2-11 to 1-8.
The winners will play the losers of the Derry-Donegal Ulster final in Round 4.
Top Scorers
With only the one point to his name last day out, Cian Ward’s four goals against Louth has kept him on top of the scoring pile for the Royals with 4-4.
Kildare's John Doyle, even though he is playing at midfield, has already scored 1-13 in the Lilywhites' four games.
Team News
Kevin Reilly and Cian Ward are the two major doubts for Séamus McEnaney's side going into this weekend's match. Full-back Reilly is struggling with a back injury while Ward is sweating over an ankle injury.
